(3) Agnieszka Radwanska vs Garbine Muguruza
One of Tuesdays most intriguing second round matches sees Agnieszka Radwanska take on Garbine Muguruza for a spot in the Quarter-finals at the Apia Sydney International. Both ladies started their Sydney International campaigns with relatively comfortable straight set victories.
After a wonderful week in Perth where Aga led Poland to its first Hopman Cup title, Aga got off to promising start in Sydney with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Alize Cornet. The victory broke a string of two consecutive losses to the Frenchwoman, the most recent of which coming just last week in Perth.
Aga dealt with the gusty conditions on Ken Rosewall Arena much better than Alize, and was able to raise her level at the critical end of both sets.
Martina Navratilova is expected to be courtside with Aga's support team for the very first time on Tuesday. I'm sure Aga will be keen to impress her new super-coach.
Garbine Muguruza kick-started her 2015 season with a dominant 6-0 7-5 victory over a fighting Sara Errani. Garbine took little time to brush aside Errani in the opening set however the Spaniard did have some difficulties closing out the match. Garbine would fail to serve out the match at 5-3 but would rebound to take the second set 7-5.
These two have met on two previous occasions with Aga coming out on top in two straightforward sets on both occasions. Their most recent meeting took place in the fourth round of last year's Australian Open. Aga put on a clinic that night, coming out on top 6-1 6-3. I suspect we will see a much different scoreline this time around.
There is no doubting that Garbine has the type of power game that can really hurt Radwanska. If Aga is slightly sluggish or doesn't see well enough, she will be smacked off the court by Garbine. I have a feeling Garbine will cause an upset here.
Prediction: Garbine Muguruza to defeat Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets
