The first quarter-final in Brisbane will see Angelique Kerber take on Elina Svitolina in what promises to be an extremely hard fought battle on Pat Rafter Arena.

Elina Svitolina has made a wonderful start to her 2015 campaign. After a comprehensive first round victory over Magdalena Rybarikova, Svitolina was too solid for a wayward Ajla Tomljanovic, prevailing 6-3 6-2. Svitolina was extremely sharp, giving very little away and stepping up and attacking when an opportunity arose.

 

Angelique Kerber was forced to work hard for her second round victory over Gavrilova, eventually prevailing 6-3 7-5. Angie has also looked extremely sharp on the baseline in her opening two matches, generating extreme power and coming up with marvellous passing shots.

 

These two have quite similar games, both refuse to give away free points but both aren't afraid to go for their shots when an opportunity presents.

Kerber leads the h2h 2-1. However, In their most recent encounter it was the Ukrainian who prevailed. In Wuhan, Svitolina came out on top in a tight match 6-4 7-6. Kerber prevailed just a couple of weeks earlier in Tokyo, winning 6-4 6-4.

This should be another tight battle, Angie's experience and greater strength will get her over the line on this occasion.
