๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต (3) Naomi Osaka vs. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Denisa Allertova

The third seeded Naomi Osaka will face a real test in her second round match in Nottingham when she takes on Denisa Allertova. Osaka will need to be wary heading into this match, Allertova has a powerful game that is well suited to the grass, expect Allertova to really change Osaka.

Osaka got off to a slow start in her opening round match in Nottingham. The rising star was forced to come from a set down on route to a 3-6 6-1 6-2 win over Sachia Vickery. In theory Osaka has the type of explosive game that can be very dangerous on this surface, however she does have little experience on grass and was understandably rusty in her opening round match on Monday. It will be interesting to see if her level picks up in the second round.

Denisa Allertova stormed through her opening round match in Nottingham, a dominant 6-3 6-1 win over Kristie Ahn. Allertova also has little experience on grass so it was encouraging for her to have such a positive opening round performance in Nottingham.

The only previous match between the pair was a close one, Osaka claimed a hard-fought 6-3 4-6 7-5 victory at the U.S Open last year. That result will give Allertova encouragement that she can cause an upset here.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ (4) Elina Svitolina vs ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ (Q) Denisa Allertova

Elina Svitolina enters the round of 16 stage of the Australian Open as the favourite to win the tournament. Svitolina will be back in action on Sunday against Czech qualifier Denisa Allertova. Svitolina is into the 4th round stage of the Australian Open for the first time, the 4th seed won more tournaments than any other player in 2017 however her record at the Grand Slam level was not impressive. The Ukrainian is certainly focusing more on the majors in 2018, this yearโ€™s Australian Open seems like a golden opportunity for Svitolina to make her mark on the biggest stage.

Svitolina cruised into the round of 16 at Melbourne Park, beating Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-2. Svitolina was too solid and too experienced for Kostyuk in what was a fairly uncompetitive match. In the opening round, Svitolina cruised past Ivana Jorovic 6-3 6-2 before overcoming a slow start to beat Katerina Siniakova 4-6 6-2 6-1. Svitolina is currently on an 8 match winning streak having arrived at Melbourne Park on the back of winning the title at the Brisbane International.

Denisa Allertova is into the round of 16 stage at a Grand Slam for the very first time. Allertova is having a superb week, the 24-year-old rocketed through the qualifying draw without dropping a set and has brought that form into the main draw. Allertova has made the most of a favourable draw, defeating Pauline Parmentier, Shuai Zhang and Magda Linette to reach the fourth round stage in Melbourne.

Interestingly, It was Allertova who won the only previous match between the pair, a surprise 7-5 6-4 victory in Doha in 2016.

Denisa Allertova is proving that she is much more capable than her current ranking of 130 in the world suggests. Allertova blasted her way through the qualifying draw at Melbourne Park without dropping a set. Allertova has continued to storm through the tournament in the main draw, beating Pauline Parmentier 6-3 6-0 in the opening round before beating Shuai Zhang 6-4 7-6. Allertova did also reach the third round stage at Melbourne Park in 2016. The quick hard courts in Melbourne really suit the same of Allertova.

Magda Linette started the event with a 2-6 6-4 6-3 win over Jennifer Brady before causing a big upset as she defeated the 22nd seeded Daria Kasatkina 7-6 6-2. Linette was seemingly struggling with an ankle injury throughout the match but Kasatkina was unable to take advantage of the situation.

The pair have never gone head-to-head in a completed match.
