Stephens has proven her ability to win big tournaments over the last year by winning the U.S Open and the Miami Open, this means Stephens must be considered a real contender in Paris.

Magdalena Frech is into the second round of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. The Pole secured her spot in the second round with a gutsy 6-3 3-6 6-3 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova. It has been a long week for Frech who has already played 4 matches to reach this stage after winning 3 tough matches in the qualifying draw.

This will be the first career meeting between Stephens and Frech, a match that Stephens will be expected to win comfortably but Frech is in career best form and has nothing to lose here.
