Maria Sharapova vs Peng Shuai, Australian Open R4 Preview

(2) Maria Sharapova vs (21) Peng Shuai

Maria Sharapova's quest for a second Australian Open title continues on Sunday afternoon where she faces Peng Shuai for a spot in the Quarter-finals at Melbourne Park.

Maria Sharapova bounced back from an almighty scare in the second round to totally demolish Zarina Diyas 6-1 6-1 on Rod Laver Arena. Maria completely dictated play from the baseline, giving Zarina very few opportunities to step up and be aggressive.

Peng Shuai produced some excellent tennis in her 7-6 6-3 third round victory over Yaroslava Shvedova. Peng saved six set points in the opening set before eventually prevailing in a tiebreaker. Peng ultimately broke Yaroslava's resistance late in the second set to reach the second week of a Grand Slam for a third consecutive occasion.

Maria Sharapova has a commanding 4-1 head to head record over the Chinese number one. The two haven't play for a while, a 6-2 6-1 victory for Maria at Roland Garros in 2012 was the last meeting between the two.

Peng can be a tricky customer, however it's highly likely that she will really struggle to deal with the power of the number two seed. I think Maria will prevail quite comfortably.

Prediction: Maria Sharapova to defeat Peng Shuai in straight sets

Peng Shuai vs Caroline Wozniacki Preview – US Open Semi-Final

Peng Shuai vs (10) Caroline Wozniacki

2014 US Open surprise package Peng Shuai will face her toughest task of the fortnight in her first ever Grand Slam semi-final when she takes on former finalist Caroline Wozniacki. This promises to be an entertaining battle between two inform players.

No one in the tennis world would have predicted Peng Shuai to reach the semi-finals of this years US Open. Peng’s greatest results over the past few years have been in doubles with her partner Su-Wei. It has been a fairytale run for the 28 year old who has twice contemplated retiring over the past couple of years. Peng’s passage to the semi-finals hasn't been easy, she produced one of the upsets of the tournament in the second round to defeat fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets as well as defeating Lucie Safarova and Roberta Vinci in straight sets. Peng totally routed Belinda Bencic in the quarter-finals, hitting 22 winners to just 7 unforced errors in a totally commanding performance.

Caroline Wozniacki’s recent resurgence has continued in New York, the Dane is poised to reach her second Grand Slam final. Like Peng, Wozniacki’s pathway to the semi-finals hasn't been easy. The former world number 1 impressively breezed past Andrea Petkovic in the third round before producing a stunning performance to defeat Maria Sharapova in the fourth round. Wozniacki totally outplayed Errani in their quarter-final encounter, hitting 26 winners on route to a 6-0 6-1 drubbing.

Wozniacki has a commanding 5-1 head to head record over Peng Shuai; the Dane has won the last five meetings between the two. Their most recent encounter was last year in New Haven; Peng won the first set but was forced to retire in the second set.

This will be a totally new experience for Peng Shuai, im not sure how she will deal with the occasion. Wozniacki is played incredibly well at the moment; she should be too strong for Peng.

Prediction: Caroline Wozniacki to defeat Peng Shuai in straight sets
