Eugenie Bouchard vs Ekaterina Makarova Preview – US Open Fourth Round

(7) Eugenie Bouchard vs (17) Ekaterina Makarova

Monday’s match of the day sees Eugenie Boucahrd take on Ekaterina Makarova for a place in the quarter-finals at the US Open. Both bring contrasting form into this match; Makarova has cruised through her opening three matches whilst Boucahrd has stumbled through her previous two matches.

Eugenie Boucahrd looked down and out midway through the deciding set in her third round match against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova but the Canadian clicked into gear just in time to advance to the fourth round. Despite not being at her best this week, Genie has shown the maturity and determination that has seen her reach at least the semi-finals in each of this years Grand Slam events.

Makarova has been untroubled in her opening three matches in New York and will be looking to reach the quarter-final in New York for the second year in a row.

In their only previous meeting, Makarova defeated Boucahrd 6-4 6-2 in Washington last year. Boucahrd is certainly far from her best at the moment however the Canadian has shown all year that she thrives on the big stages. Bouchard has reached at least the semi-finals in all three of this years Grand Slams and will be desperate to avoid a fourth round exit in New York. Makarova is always hard to read, she can often struggle in matches like this. Genie is certainly the greater competitor of the two, I think Bouchard will be able to raise her level and come through this match.

Prediction: Eugenie Boucahrd to defeat Makarova in 2 sets
