Final - (6) Eugenie Bouchard vs (3) Petra Kvitova
The inaugural Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open final will be a rematch of this years Wimbledon final with Petra Kvitova set to face Eugenie Boucahrd in what promises to be an entertaining encounter. The winner of this match will not only become the first champion in Wuhan but will officially secure their spot at the upcoming BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore.
Eugenie Bouchard advanced to her first ever premier level final with a comprehensive 6-2 6-3 victory over Caroline Wozniacki. In what was their first ever meeting, Bouchard’s aggressive play was too much for Wozniacki to handle. Genie was in control of the match from start to finish, an impressively consistent performance. After a disappointing North American hard court season, Genie seems to have regained her confidence just in time for the WTA Finals in Singapore.
Petra Kvitova advanced to the Wuhan Open final by overcoming a stern challenge from Elina Svitolina, coming out on top in straight sets 6-3 7-5, avenging her loss to Ukrainian in Cincinnati. Kvitova was always in control of the match, breaking early in each set. However Svitolina was able to mount a fight back in each set but ultimately Petra's experience seemed to get over the line as she was too strong in the important moments.
Petra has a perfect 2-0 head to head record over Genie. Petra routed Genie 6-3 6-0 in the Wimbledon final earlier this year and comprehensively defeated the Canadian 6-3 6-2 in Toronto last year. Bouchard is the ultimate competitor and will be desperate for revenge on Saturday. It has been a long week in Wuhan, the conditions have been tough. If this match goes to three (which I think it will), I give Genie the edge.
Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard to defeat Petra Kvitova in 3 sets
