Garbine Muguruza vs Madison Keys, Cincinnati R3 Preview

Western & Southern Open, 🇺🇸🌉 Cincinnati R3 Preview + Prediction
(4) 🇪🇸 Garbine Muguruza vs (16) 🇺🇸 Madison Keys

The match of the day at the Western & Southern Open on Thursday sees the reining Wimbledon Champion: Garbine Muguruza, come up against a resurgent Madison Keys. Garbine Muguruza has made a decent start to the U.S Open series, the Spaniard has backed up well after claiming her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last month. Madison Keys is one of the form players on tour at the moment having won the title in Stanford a few weeks ago and beating two tough opponents to reach the third round in Cincinnati. This looms as a tough battle between two ladies playing great tennis at the moment.

Garbine Muguruza received a bye into the second round where she thumped Beatriz Maia Haddad 6-2 6-0. Muguruza is already competing in her third event on the U.S Open series, the Spaniard reached the semi-final in Stanford and the quarter-finals in Toronto last week. Madison Keys is on a 6-match winning streak after winning the title in Stanford a few weeks ago. Keys started her Cincinnati campaign with a three set win over CoCo Vandeweghe before crushing Daria Kasatkina 6-2 6-1.

Interestingly, Keys holds a perfect 3-0 record over Muguruza. The most recent match took place a few weeks ago in Stanford where Keys won 6-3 6-2 on route to the title. Despite this, I think Muguruza will emerge victorious on this occasion. Given their previous matches, Muguruza will enter this match desperate to win, Muguruza has proven to be extremely tough to beat this year when she has been desperate. Muguruza has the weapons to match the American's weapons, its all about her mentality.

  1. Thnx wtaaddictcom for that info.

I am gonna make a fresh pot of coffee then and watch all games.

wtaaddict, I think instead of betting Julia Georges vs Svitolina match betting on Sloane stephens vs makarova match may be more profitable. Sloane should beat a cramped and tired makarova in 2 sets comfortably compared to the 1st match of Svitolina which can be tight (or may not…it depends on what consistency and level of play Julia brings to the court today. Right?)

Put more money on Sloane(70%) than Svitolina (30%) finally. Did I do the right thing wtaaddict?

      • Thanks for the good news wtaaddictcom.

Went to bed but, I am not able to sleep as I already downed 3 cups of coffee reading your earlier message (It is supposed to start in 20 minutes. As long as it doesn’t rain again…)Ha,Ha,ha…

No problem wtaaddictcom, i will down a bottle of melatonin tablets and go back to bed. I hope it helps(counter the coffee)!

See you tomorrow wtaaddictcom. But I am may be groggy and blabbering $*)%!)^&…etc. something in Tennis (due to a combo effect of Coffee and Melatonin…hope you don’t min!)!Ha,ha,ha…

Goodnight wtaaddictcom! Oops! It might be morning for you on the other side of the world!

  2. How can you pick Garbine when Maddie is running white hot at the moment and Maddie owns the head to head 3-0 while I know the head to head is match history but it worth noting. Unless Maddie’s form comes down more of the same should happen. I would pick Maddie in 3 sets because of the tougher matches she played to get to this match. Garbine will have to play really well to turn the result of fortnight ago around.

    • Well she is the reigning Wimbledon champion so she is undoubtedly capable. I think she will bring her Wimbledon form to this match because of the head-to-head record

      • Congrats wtaaddictcom on your correct Mugurza win prediction. Keys squandered a lot of chances. Was leading in the 3rd set 5-4 and just had to serve out the game but squandered her game away.

wtaaddictcom, you predicted that Svitolina will beat Julia Georges in 2 sets. My research tells me that this match will be very competitive and might go to the 3rd set, if Julia conyinues to serve and return well like she did against Aga and Abanda. Svitolina has moderate advantage only in the return game(5% appx.) and total points won(2% appx.). Julia has the advantage in 1st serve points won and in big adv. in Break Points won (mainly due to her power serves).

If Julia plays well like she did in her last 2 games, then why can’t she win in the 3rd set?

I know that Svitolina is in top form with more wins(19/5 against 15/8 for Julia) on hard and on all surfaces this season. Svitolina is also far better ranked than Julia.

But can you please list all advantages that you see for Svitolina to win this match in 2 steps?

I think Svitolina will struggle and win in 3 sets because of sudden very good form of Julia with severe advantage in power serve and returns.

Wtaaddict, can you give me a fast reply as I want to bet after I see your detailed reply.

        • I do agree that Goerges has a good chance. Especially if they play tonight, Goerges at her best can win or something near it.. anything else and Svitolina wins easy

          • Thanks for your quick reply wtaaddictcom.

I also see that the last match they played, Julia won in 3 sets. My gut says same may happen today.

But Julia can crack under pressure (like against Begu in Romania in the Bucharest Open, recently) and make many mistakes like Madison keys did today. Right? And Svitolina will definitely turn on the pressure to elicit mistakes from Julia just as she did against Venus Williams, Halep etc. Right?

Do you think that the Organizers will make all the players of the 4 remaining matches(inclusive of the doubles) play tonight, if the rain lets up in the next 1 hour or so…..so we the fans and the players can go to bed!? Ha,ha,ha…

            • It is supposed to start in 20 minutes. As long as it doesn’t rain again (which it is not supposed to) they should get it all done

  3. If Keys plays with high efficiency and low unforced/forced errors then Keys consistency and power will be too much for Mugurza to handle…making the H2H 4-0.

Mugurza is also kinda distracted by her new fame (wimbeldon win), new sponsors, new advt./marketing opportunities and money….unlike keys who is down to earth playing terrific tennis with no injury concerns now!

Besides Keys will have more of the crowd cheering for her, as she is playing in her US backyard (Canada)!lol

wtaaddictcom, who are your picks in the ATP today?

    • Muguruza is not distracted. She is used to this situation, she has been here before. I think she is doing well since Wimbledon. Keys is always going to be inconsistent so anything can happen
