Roland Garros – Day 10 – Quarter-Final Match Previews

Quarter-Final #1 (4) Maria Sharapova vs Garbine Muguruza

Serena Williams conquerer Garbine Muguruza faces her second biggest task of the fortnight, tournament favourite Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova survived an early scare from Sam Stosur to reach the quarter-finals in Paris. This was Sharapova's first real test of the fortnight, a test that she needed heading into the pointy end of the tournament. We all know about Muguruza's incredible victory over Serena Williams, but what has been equally impressive is that she has not suffered a let down in her next few matches.

Sharapova easily disposed of Muguruza in their only previous meeting which took place at Rome in 2013. Muguruza has dramatically improved since then,  having beaten Serena the Spaniard should be confident that she can cause another upset.

These two ladies are both very aggressive with their powerful groundstrokes and serves. This is a massive opportunity for Sharapova to win another Grand Slam title, she has worked so hard to get back to this level and will be very difficult to beat.

Prediction: Maria Sharapova to defeat Garbine Muguruza 6-3 6-4

Quarter-Final #2 (18) Eugenie Bouchard vs (14) Carla Suarez Navarro

Both Bouchard and Suarez Navarro have taken advantage of their relatively comfortable passages into the final 8. This is a massive opportunity for one of these two ladies to reach the semi finals of a Grand Slam.

Eugenie Bouchard was very impressive in her dismantling of Angelique Kerber in the fourth round. It took Bouchard under an hour to breeze past Kerber, a real dominant display from the Canadian. Suarez Navarro has once again shown her prowess on clay, overwhelming promising youngster Ajla Tomljanovic in the fourth round.

This is one of the hardest matches all tournament to predict. Bouchard is on a 9 match winning streak whislt Suarez Navarro is very comfortable on clay and is more experienced. Despite CSN being more experienced it is Bouchard who seems to be mentally stronger, CSN is know to breakdown under pressure.

If Bouchard comes out swinging like she did against Kerber she should be able to hit past CSN to reach her second Grand Slam semi-final

Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard to defeat Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2 4-6 6-3
