Serena Williams vs Caroline Wozniacki Preview & Prediction – Rogers Cup Quarter-Final

Quarter-Final (1) Serena Williams vs (11) Caroline Wozniacki

Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will open proceedings on quarter-final day at the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Defending Champion Serena Williams looks set to defend her title at the Rogers Cup this week. Serena’s biggest threats this week, Petra Kvitova and Maria Sharapova both suffered shock third round exits on Thursday. The world number 1 survived a strong challenge from Lucie Safarova; Serena was the one who played the better tennis when it mattered most.

Caroline Wozniacki cruised to her third consecutive straight sets victory in Montreal. After shocking Eugenie Boucahrd in the second round, Shelby Rogers was no match for the Dane, slumping to a 6-1 6-0 defeat. Caroline has only lost of a total of 6 games in her opening three matches in Montreal. Things wont be as easy for the former world number 1 on Friday when she looks to defeat Serena Williams for the second time in her career.

Serena has a commanding 6-1 head to head record over the Dane. Wozniacki’s only win against Serena was a 6-4 6-4 victory in the quarter-finals of the Sony Open in Miami back in 2012. Since then Serena has won three straight matches against the Dane. These two are good friends off the court but they are both fierce competitors and will be desperate to keep their recent good form going on Friday afternoon. It’s hard to see Caroline winning this; something would need to go terribly wrong for Serena if Caro is to prevail. However I believe this will be much more competitive than their two most recent encounter, largely because Caro’s serve seems to be working more effectively than ever.

Prediction: Serena Williams to defeat Caroline Wozniacki in three sets
