(8) Victoria Azarenka vs Heather Watson
Vika stumbled through her opening match in Montreal, just scrapping past Alize Cornet in the third set. Vika seemed to be battling through an injury; she certainly isn’t fully fit and is nowhere near her best at the moment. Qualifier, Heather Watson has already survived three close scares in Montreal. The biggest scare came in her second round match on Wednesday, Heather came from a set down to claim one of the biggest victories of her career over 10th seeded Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova. Heather coughed up significant leads in the second and third sets but still managed to come out on top in the tiebreakers. Given Vika is seemingly vulnerable, Heather has a decent chance to reverse her past troubles against the Belarusian.
Vika has a 3-0 head to head record over the Brit; Heather has managed to win less than 2 games in each of their matches. If Vika is well enough to compete, she should come through this match In straight sets. Vika is infamous for exaggerating ‘injuries’ on court, especially when she isn’t playing well (as was the case against Alize). However given her recent injury woes, it is hard to know where she is at. Anything could happen here…
Prediction: Victoria Azarenka to defeat Heather Watson in straight sets
