BNP Paribas Open, 🇺🇸🌴 Indian Wells R4 Preview
🇩🇰 (2) Caroline Wozniacki vs. 🇷🇺 (20) Daria Kasatkina
Caroline Wozniacki and Daria Kasatkina will renew hostilities when they meet at the fourth round stage of the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday evening. Wozniacki has obviously been one of the top performers in 2018 and will head into this match as the favourite. However, Kasatkina is also in great form and beat Wozniacki last month in St. Petersburg in straight sets.
Caroline Wozniacki laboured into the fourth round on Monday. Wozniacki was forced to work surprisingly hard to get past Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the second seed eventually claimed a hard-fought 6-4 2-6 6-3 victory over the Belarussian. Prior to Wozniacki’s third round win she defeated Lara Arruabarrena 6-4 6-1 after she had received a bye through the opening round. Wozniacki commented after her win over Sasnovich that she finds the Indian Wells surface very challenging because it is so slow and high bouncing, not the ideal conditions for the Dane who can be exposed on a surface like this.
Kasatkina is a player that certainly benefits from the unique conditions in Indian Wells. Kasatkina started the event with a straight set win over Katerina Siniakova before claiming an impressive 6-4 6-3 over Sloane Stephens. Kasatkina has the type of game that is benefited by the slow, high bouncing courts in Indian Wells. Those who play with heavy topspin are at an advantage on this surface, the Kasatkina forehand is a very heavy shot and was very effective in her victory over Sloane Stephens.
The head-to-head record between Wozniacki and Kasatkina is split at 1 win apiece. Wozniacki defeated Kasatkina 6-2 7-5 last year in Doha whilst more recently it was Kasatkina who claimed a 7-6 6-3 win at the quarter-final stage in St. Petersburg last month, can Kasatkina replicate that result and send the second seed packing?
