WTA Eastbourne Day 2 Preview/Predictions

Day 1 at Eastbourne saw a number of high quality first round matches and day 2 promises to be even more entertaining. Victoria Azarenka will make her long awaited return from injury against Camila Giorgi whilst seeded players Kvitova, Jankovic and Errani all face tough opponents in their opening round matches.

(4) Victoria Azarenka vs Camila Giorgi

Azarenka is back, finally! The former world number one has not played since a shock opening round loss to Lauren Davis at Indian Wells. This will be the first time Victoria Azarenka and Camila Giorgi have come up against each other, it will be interesting to see how things pan out.

The result of the this match will depend on where Azarenka is at, she will be desperate for a victory as she can ill afford to go to Wimbledon having lost three matches in a row. I believe Vika will win this match, she wouldn't be playing if she was still hampered by injury. She may be rusty at first but she will battle past the Italian.

Prediction: Victoria Azarenka to defeat Camila Giorgi 7-5 6-3

(2) Petra Kvitova vs Lucie Safarova

The two erratic Czech lefties have drawn each other in what should a tough opening round clash.

These two have met on four previous occasions, amazingly they have already met on three occasions this season. Petra Kvitova has emerged victorious on all four occasions, Lucie has only managed to take one set off her compatriot during the four matches. There is no doubting that grass suits Kvitova more so than Safarova even though they have quite similar playing styles.

Safarova lost in a tight three set match in Birmingham to Strycova whilst this will be Kvitova's first match on grass for the season. It's always hard to predict matches involving these two, let alone when they come up against each other. Kvitova certainly seems to have the edge, especially on grass.

Prediction: Petra Kvitova to defeat Lucie Safarova 3-6 6-4 6-1
