(9) Agnieszka Radwanska vs Sloane Stephens
The first semifinal at the 2015 Aegon International sees a resurgent Agnieszka Radwanska take on the the always dangerous, Sloane Stephens. Both ladies will be aiming to reach their first final of 2015.
Agnieszka Radwanska has stormed into the semifinals at Devonshire Park, dropping just 9 games in her opening three matches. The Pole has improved in every match, eclipsing her impressive 6-2 6-1 third round victory over Karolina Pliskova with an emphatic 6-2 6-2 drubbing of Tsvetana Pironkova in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
Radwanska produced arguably her best performance of the season, firing 25 winners past the Bulgarian whilst committing only 6 unforced errors. A performance that suggests Agnieszka can still be a threat at Wimbledon this year.
Sloane Stephens has once again shown her potential on grass. The American survived an opening round scare, scraping past Naomi Broady 7-6 in the third before recording impressive straight set victories over Carla Suarez Navarro and Heather Watson.
Sloane received a walkover into the semifinals as Daria Gavrilova pulled out of their quarter-final with an abdominal injury. Sloane will therefore have an extra day off to prepare for the semifinals.
Aga has a perfect 3-0 head to head record over Sloane. All three victories came on a hard court. Aga didn’t have things all her own way in any of the three matches, twice being pushed to a third set. However the Pole won their most recent encounter in straight sets, 6-1 7-6 in Toronto back in 2013.
Given how well Aga has played this week, she will be very difficult to beat here. Aga does most things a little better than Stephens and should advance to her first final of the year.
Prediction: Aga Radwanska to defeat Sloane Stephens in 2 sets
