Toronto R3: (6) Agnieszka Radwanska vs Alize Cornet
Agnieszka Radwanska continues her Rogers Cup title defence on Thursday when she comes up against Alize Cornet in the third round. This promises to be an exciting match between two ladies who seem to bring out the best in each other.
Radwanska received a bye through the opening round before overcoming a tough test from Julia Goerges, prevailing 7-5 6-3. Goerges had her moments, however Radwanska was ultimately far too solid for the inconsistent German. Radwanska will face a very different challenge in the next round against Cornet.
Alize Cornet has surpassed most expectations this week. Alize upset Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3 6-7 7-4 in a rain-interrupted match which ran over two days. Alize came agonisingly close to closing the match out in 2 sets so she did well to regroup and win the third set. Alize advanced to the third round with a surprisingly comfortable 6-3 6-2 victory over Dominika Cibulkova.
Aga holds a 4-1 head to head record over Alize, however Aga has struggled against Cornet in recent times. Alize defeated Aga in a marathon 3 hour match at the Hopman cup earlier this year and also defeated the Pole in the Katowice semi-finals last year.
Radwanska will be wary of the threats Cornet can pose and will enter this match extremely focused. Cornet will enter this match full of confidence, knowing that she has the game to trouble Aga. These two have very similar games, often leading to close encounters, this one should be no different. Aga is much more consistent and should just sneak through tine one.
Prediction: Agnieszka Radwanska to defeat Alize Cornet in 3 sets
