Wimbledon R3: (13) Agnieszka Radwanska vs Casey Dellacqua
Agnieszka Radwanska has quietly moved through to the third round at SW19. The former finalist seems to have found her way again after a horrendous start to the season.
Aga now has a great chance to reach the second week at the All England club for the eighth time in her career when she takes on Casey Dellacqua on Saturday, an opponent she has totally dominated in the past.
Aga Radwanska has strolled past two potentially dangerous opponents to reach the third round in London. The Pole easily accounted for Lucie Hradecka in the opening round, claiming a 6-3 6-2 victory before thumping Ajla Tomljanovic 6-0 6-2 in the second round, avenging her shock loss to the Australian at Roland Garros last year.
Aga really enjoys playing on grass, her results show that she feels comfortable on the surface. Radwanska has played much better tennis over the last couple of weeks, reaching the Eastbourne final and looking good in her first two matches in London. Aga looks more like the solid top 10 player we are used to seeing.
Casey Dellacqua has equalled her best career result at Wimbledon, reaching the third round at SW19 for the second time in her career. The Australian has played some solid tennis in her opening two matches, defeating former quarter-finalist Tamira Paszek 6-2 6-2 in the first round before recording a 7-6 6-3 victory over Elina Svitolina on Thursday.
Dellacqua’s victory over Svitolina was the Australian’s first top 20 scalp of 2015. Casey blasted 38 winners past the Ukrainian, her aggressive game proving too much for Svitolina to handle. Casey will need another high winners count if she is to capture her first career victory over Agnieszka Radwanska on Saturday.
Aga Radwanska holds a perfect 2-0 head to head record over Dellacqua. Both matches have been comfortable straight set victories for the Pole, including a 6-4 6-0 at Wimbledon last year. In their most recent encounter, Radwanska cruised to a 6-2 6-1 victory in Madrid earlier this year.
As the head to head record suggests, Dellacqua really struggles to hit through Radwanska. Aga totally outplayed Dellacqua on the grass at SW19 last year, she will be full of confidence heading into this one. Dellacqua will also enter this match full confidence, despite the head to head record. Casey blasted Svitolina off the court in her previous match, good preparation for a clash with Radwanska.
I think this will be closer than their previous encounters, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Dellacqua win a set, however Radwanska will ultimately be too good for the Australian.
Prediction: Aga Radwanska to defeat Casey Dellacqua in 3 sets
