Agnieszka Radwanska vs Jelena Jankovic, Wimbledon R4 Preview

Wimbledon R4: (13) Agnieszka Radwanska vs (28) Jelena Jankovic

One of magic Monday’s most intriguing fourth round matches sees Agnieszka Radwanska and Jelena Jankovic go head to head, second up on Court 3. Radwanska and Jankovic have both gone through some tough times in season 2015, a win here would mean so much to both, the stakes will be extremely high.

Agnieszka Radwanska has reached the second week at SW19 for the eighth time in her career, cruising through her first three matches without dropping a set. Radwanska has been back to her efficient best in the opening rounds at the All England Club, making light work of a potentially dangerous draw. The Pole has hit less than 7 unforced errors in her first three matches at the Championships.

Radwanska secured her spot in the fourth round with a convincing 6-1 6-4 victory over Casey Dellacqua. Aga was once again too solid for the Australian number 2, Dellacqua couldn’t consistently hit through Radwanska. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Aga, she did find herself down 0-4 in the second set. Aga weathered the storm and went on to win 6 consecutive games to waltz into the next round.

The bottom half of the draw has opened up nicely for Radwanska. With Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber all eliminated before the second week, Aga should now be considered one of the favourites to come through the bottom half of the draw, there is no reason why she shouldn’t. Radwanska needs to make the most of this opportunity, it might be her last.

Jelena Jankovic will be no pushover in the fourth round. The Serb enters her clash with Radwanska full of confidence after sending defending champion Petra Kvitova out of the Championships. Jankovic produced one of her best performances in recent years, coming from a set and a break down to record a 3-6 7-5 6-4 victory the two-time former champion.

Jankovic’s victory over the defending champion stunned everyone, including herself, the Serb is now into the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time since 2010. The former world number 1 will be looking to reach the quarter-finals at SW19 for the first time in her career on Monday when she takes on Agnieszka Radwanska, an opponent she has struggled against in the past.

Agnieszka Radwanska holds a 5-2 head to head record over Jelena Jankovic. Radwanska has won all five of their hard court encounters, whilst both of Jankovic’s victories have come on clay. In their most recent encounter, Jankovic prevailed 6-4 6-4 in Rome last year. This will be their first encounter on a grass court, their head to head record and past results on grass suggest that Radwanska should have the edge on the faster surface.

This is a massive opportunity for both ladies to reach the latter stages of a Grand Slam, in a season that has been full of disappointment. Radwanska has the formula to defeat Jankovic, the Pole’s game stacks up well against Jelena, the Serb really struggles to hit through Aga. This is Aga’s best surface and Jelena’s worst, Aga should find a way to come through this one.

Prediction: Aga Radwanska to defeat Jelena Jankovic in 2 sets
