Agnieszka Radwanska vs Julia Goerges, Cincinnati R1 Preview

Western & Southern Open, ??? Cincinnati R1 Preview + Prediction
(10) ?? Agnieszka Radwanska vs ?? Julia Goerges

Agnieszka Radwanska showed signs of a form reversal in Toronto last week and will be hoping to continue to gain momentum in Cincinnati. Radwanska will begin her Western & Southern Open campaign on Tuesday with a tough opening round clash against an in-form Julia Goerges. Radwanska holds a 3-1 head-to-head record over Goerges but it is the German who has generally been playing the better tennis of late, it will be interesting to see if Radwanska is still able to maintain her winning ways over Goerges.

Agnieszka Radwanska started her U.S Open series campaign in Toronto last week, the Pole won a couple of confidence boosting matches: easing past CoCo Vandeweghe and Timea Babos in straight sets. However, Radwanska was comprehensively beaten by Caroline Wozniacki in the third round. Julia Goerges suffered a first round loss in Toronto, beaten by Catherine Bellis in straight sets. It was an understandable loss for Goerges given the short turnaround after contesting the Washington D.C final a few days earlier. Goerges suffered a heart-breaking loss to Makarova in the Washington final and has now lost 3 finals in the last couple of months.

Radwanska seems to have found her groove again and should be too classy for Goerges on this occasion. Goerges is still very much hit and miss and whilst she does have the game to trouble Radwanska, her able to think clearly and remain consistency in matches like this is always very questionable. Radwanska’s ability to ease past big hitters: Vandeweghe and Babos last week show that she is still crafty enough to get past these types of opponents.
