BNP Paribas Open, ??? Indian Wells, R3 Match Preview
(6) ?? Agnieszka Radwanska vs (Q) ?? Shuai Peng
Former Indian Wells finalist Agnieszka Radwanska will continue her 2017 BNP Paribas Open campaign on Monday where she faces Chinese qualifier Shuai Peng. The Indian Wells Tennis Garden has generally been a happy hunting ground for the Pole, the world number 6 will be hoping for another deep run in the Californian desert to jumpstart her season and push back into the top 5 in the rankings.

After receiving a bye into the second round, Radwanska overcame a scrappy start to get past Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-3 6-4. Aga was not at her best in her opening match, but she didn’t need to be. What has been worrying for Aga in 2017 is that she has rarely been able to produce her best tennis, something she will want to reverse before a downward spiral is created.
Shuai Peng has been very consistent in 2017. Peng has already won 4 matches this week having come through the qualifying draw. The Chinese number 2 has had to overcome a couple of tricky opponents in the main draw to reach the third round stage, starting with a gruelling 6-2 2-6 7-5 win over Lesia Tsurenko before an impressive 6-4 6-2 dismissal of Ana Konjuh.
Radwanska holds a 3-2 head-to-head record over Peng, this is a match-up that has been troublesome for Aga in the past so she will be wary of her Chinese opponent heading into this match. The most recent match between the pair saw Peng claim a big 6-4 6-3 upset win at the 2014 U.S Open where she went on to make the quarter-finals.
Radwanska has not been at her best in 2017 and Peng is the type of solid player that can consistently hurt Aga with her heavier shots from the baseline. I think the slightly slower surface will suit Radwanska in this match-up as she can force Peng to play a few extra shots and will probably force Peng into too many errors. I don’t think Aga is playing that great right now but she should sneak through this one.
