Alize Cornet vs Timea Babos, Roland Garros R1 Preview

Roland Garros, ??? R1 Preview + Prediction
?? Alize Cornet vs ?? Timea Babos

Alize Cornet is always one of the players to watch at Roland Garros. Cornet has long been the local hope in Paris, the weight of expectation on Cornet has subsided recently as attention shifts to Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic. Cornet loves the spotlight and will be desperate to reignite her career with a strong performance in Paris. Cornet will begin her 2017 Roland Garros campaign with a tough opener, Cornet comes up against the big hitting Hungarian, Timea Babos.

Alize Cornet’s form in the lead-up to Roland Garros has been poor. Cornet claimed just one win from four tournaments on clay as she prepared for her home Grand Slam. Most recently, the Frenchwoman was beaten by Peng Shuai in the first round in Strasbourg last week. Cornet usually raised her level in Paris, in the last couple of years Alize has made the fourth round and the third round.

Timea Babos is also in poor form heading into the second Grand Slam of the year. Babos is on a four match losing streak and has never been able to perform too well on clay. Babos has won just one main draw match at Roland Garros, which was last year. An amazingly poor record for a player with such talent.

This will be the first career meeting between Cornet and Babos. This should be a fairly close, dramatic affair (as is usually the case with Cornet). Alize enjoys playing big hitters, especially error prone ones such as Babos. Cornet is more comfortable on this surface and will rise to the occasion with the crowd right behind her. Babos is in terrible form and her movement on clay is poor and will be exposed by Cornet.

Prediction: Alize Cornet to defeat Timea Babos in 3 sets
