#BOTWClassic, ??? Stanford R1 Preview + Prediction
(5) ?? Ana Konjuh vs (Q) ?? Maria Erakovic

Ana Konjuh will begin her U.S Open series campaign on Monday afternoon with a first round clash against qualifier, Marina Erakovic. Konjuh’s first big success came in the United States as she reached the quarter-final stage at the U.S Open last year. Konjuh will be hoping for another round of success on the North American hard courts in 2017, starting with a strong showing in Stanford as she builds towards NY.

Ana Konjuh has been extremely inconsistent throughout 2017 and has generally not been able to play as well as she would have liked often enough. Konjuh showed some promising signs at Wimbledon where she reached the fourth round, defeating three quality opponents before succumbing to eventual runner-up Venus Williams in 2 sets

Marina Erakovic’s progression through the qualifying draw in Stanford was not as easy as expected. Erakovic laboured to three set wins over Jacqueline Cako and Michaela Gordon to secure her spot in the main draw at the Bank of the West Classic.

Konjuh won the only previous meeting between the pair, 6-3 4-6 6-0 at Wimbledon in 2014. Konjuh should again be too good for Erakovic. Konjuh has all the weapons to thrive in the Californian desert and should have too much firepower for Erakovic. These are the types of matches that Konjuh can’t be losing at this stage of her career, there are no longer any excuses.

Prediction: Ana Konjuh to defeat Marina Erakovic in 2 sets
