Sydney International ??? QF Prediction
?? Barbora Strycova vs ?? Ashleigh Barty
I’m going to side with Strycova here. I think Strycova’s form has been far more impressive this week, Strycova is playing at a higher level and seems to have more confidence in her game at this stage of the season. Barty has made a nervy start to the Australian summer and is clearly not playing anywhere near the level she displayed towards the end of the 2017 season.
Strycova has beaten 2 quality opponents on route to the final 8, Strycova has claimed victories over Daria Kasatkina and Ekaterina Makarova. Conversely, Barty has had a very comfortable draw having beaten Veronica Cepede Royg and Ellen Perez. Strycova will be a big step up in opposition for Barty, given the way Barty has struggled against far inferior opponents I don’t think she will have the level to get past Strycova.
Strycova is always a tough opponent to beat, this is especially true for players like Barty that are not in good form. Strycova is hitting the ball well and enjoys the conditions in Sydney having reached the semi-finals last year. I expect the tactically astute Strycova to get through this one.
