Qatar Total Open, Doha R1 Preview
?? Barbora Strycova vs ?? Aleksandra Krunic
An interesting opening round match-up on Tuesday at the Qatar Total Open sees Barbora Strycova come up against Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic. Barbora Strycova has been in good form of late and will be confident heading to Doha after featuring in the Czech Republic’s successful Fed Cup tie victory over Switzerland at the weekend. Conversely, Krunic will be in action for the first time since her first round loss at the Australian Open a month ago.
Barbora Strycova has been extremely consistent in recent times. Strycova made back-to-back quarter-finals to start the year in Auckland and Sydney before reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open. Strycova was in action on the weekend where she beat Belinda Bencic in straight sets to give the Czech Republic a crucial 2-0 lead in the tie. Training with the strong Fed Cup team in Prague should be the perfect preparation for the Middle Eastern swing.
Aleksandra Krunic has not played much tennis in 2018. The Serb has only played 1 match in the last month, an opening round loss at the Australian Open to Anett Kontaveit. Interestingly, this will be the first time Krunic has competed in Doha, Krunic has never played in either of the Middle Eastern tournaments.
Strycova has won both of the previous matches between the pair, both on clay a few years ago at the ITF level.
