Caroline Wozniacki vs Lucie Safarova, Miami QF Preview

Miami Open, ???? QF Match Preview
(12) ?? Caroline Wozniacki vs ?? Lucie Safarova

An intriguing contest between Caroline Wozniacki and Lucie Safarova will take place at the quarter-final stage of the Miami Open. Caroline Wozniacki is arguably the form player on tour at the moment, the Dane is now into her fourth consecutive quarter-final and has won 15 of her last 18 matches. Lucie Safarova is also in good form, the Czech has breezed through her first four matches in Miami in straight sets and will be a dangerous opponent for Wozniacki.

Caroline Wozniacki has been super consistent over the last couple of months. Wozniacki made back-to-back finals in Doha and Dubai and has now made back-to-back quarter-finals in Indian Wells and Miami. Wozniacki has been untroubled on route to the final 8 in Miami, the former world number 1 has only had to complete two matches, recording straight set wins over Varvara Lepchenko and Sorana Cirstea whilst benefiting from the retirement of Garbine Muguruza during their fourth round match.

After a disappointing Australian summer, Lucie Safarova has rebounded strongly in the last couple of months. Safarova’s resurgence started with a run to the semi-finals in Taipei City and to the final in Budapest. Lucie claimed a couple of hard-fought wins in Indian Wells last week whilst her run to the quarter-finals in Miami is the first time she has made a significant impact at a big tournament in 2017. Safarova has cruised through the draw without dropping a set, claiming wins over Yanina Wickmayer, Daria Gavrilova, Ajla Tomljanovic and an impressive 7-6 6-1 win over Dominika Cibulkova to secure her spot in the final 8.

Caroline Wozniacki holds a 4-3 head-to-head record over Lucie Safarova. Wozniacki has won three of their last four matches including a 7-6 6-1 win in Stuttgart in 2015 in what was their most recent encounter. The matches between these two are usually very tight, this one should be no different. On a slower surface such as the one in Miami, Wozniacki will have the advantage. Safarova will need to play at her best to hit through Wozniacki and despite her improved form of late I don’t think she has it in her at the moment. Wozniacki is too solid.

Prediction: Caroline Wozniacki to defeat Lucie Safarova in 3 sets
