Karolina Pliskova vs CoCo Vandeweghe, U.S Open QF Preview

US Open, ????? QF Preview + Prediction:
(1) ?? Karolina Pliskova vs (20) ?? CoCo Vandeweghe

Karolina Pliskova’s destiny is now in her own hands in New York. Pliskova will retain her world number 1 ranking if she is to reach the final at Flushing Meadows but she will be hoping to go one step further than 2016 and win the title. Pliskova is a pretty clear favourite to win the title from here now that the majority of her main rivals are eliminated from the tournament. However, Pliskova will face a big test on Wednesday when she comes up against a red-hot CoCo Vandeweghe. The head-to-head record between Pliskova and Vandeweghe is split at 2 wins apiece, there really is very little to separate these two, meaning this should be a very close encounter with so much on the line. Can Vandeweghe cause an upset?

US Open, ????? QF Preview + Prediction:
(16) ?? Anastasija Sevastova vs ?? Sloane Stephens

A huge opportunity presents itself for Anastasija Sevastova and Sloane Stephens on Tuesday when they do battle for a place at the semi-final stage at Flushing Meadows. Both would be unexpected semi-finalists. This will be the first ever meeting between Sevastova and Stephens, both head into this match in great form having knocked out top players on route to this stage of the event. Sevastova is fresh off eliminating Maria Sharapova in what was one of the biggest wins of her career, whilst Sloane Stephens has already beaten four quality opponents in New York. It will be interesting to see who steps up and takes this big opportunity, nerves will undoubtedly be a big factor.

Venus Williams vs Petra Kvitova, U.S Open QF Preview

US Open, ????? QF Preview + Prediction:
(9) ?? Venus Williams vs (13) ?? Petra Kvitova

A blockbuster quarter-final from Flushing Meadows on Tuesday sees Venus Williams take on Petra Kvitova. At the age of 37, Venus Williams has been the most consistent performer at the Grand Slam level in 2017 having already made it to the final at the Australian Open and Wimbledon as well as a fourth round appearance at Roland Garros.

Petra Kvitova is in the midst of her own special season. After being attacked in the off season and spending half the year on the side-lines, it is incredible to see Kvitova playing so well as she has reached the quarter-final stage at the U.S Open for just the second time in her career. This is going to be an exciting contest between two of the move loved and respected players on tour, Kvitova holds a 4-1 edge in the head-to-head but Venus Williams has been superb at the later stage of Grand Slam events this year and fancy her chances here.

CoCo Vandeweghe vs Lucie Safarova, U.S Open R4 Preview

US Open, ????? R4 Preview + Prediction:
(20) ?? CoCo Vandeweghe vs ?? Lucie Safarova

CoCo Vandeweghe overcame a very negative h2h record to advance to the fourth round with a tough three set win over Agnieszka Radwanska. Vandeweghe will need to overcome another negative h2h record if she is to advance to the quarter-final stage in New York. Vandeweghe’s fourth round opponent on Monday will be Lucie Safarova, the Czech holds a 3-1 h2h record over Vandeweghe and has won their 3 most recent matches, including a three set win at Indian Wells earlier this year. This is a huge match for both ladies and we should see a tight contest with minimal break of serves. Who will step up and take this opportunity to reach the quarter-finals in New York.

Karolina Pliskova vs Jennifer Brady, U.S Open R4 Preview

US Open, ????? R4 Preview + Prediction:
(1) ?? Karolina Pliskova vs ?? Jennifer Brady

Karolina Pliskova has made it through to the second week in New York after surviving back-to-back scares. Pliskova was surprisingly pushed to a third set by Nicole Gibbs and Shuai Zhang and will be hoping for a much improved performance when she comes up against Jennifer Brady in the fourth round on Monday at Flushing Meadows. Brady will have other ideas heading into the biggest match of career, the American is into the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the second time in 2017 having never won a Grand Slam main draw match prior to 2017. Brady will enter this fourth round clash with nothing to lose and the New York crowd by her side, will that be enough to push the world number 1?

Garbine Muguruza vs Petra Kvitova, U.S Open R4 Preview

US Open, ????? R4 Preview + Prediction:
(3) ?? Garbine Muguruza vs (13) ?? Petra Kvitova

Garbine Muguruza and Petra Kvitova have both strolled into the second week in New York without dropping a set. Muguruza is the form player on the tour at the moment but will face her biggest test of the tournament thus far when she comes up against a resurgent Petra Kvitova on Sunday. Muguruza will be the favourite heading into this match but Kvitova has won the last two matches between the pair and is always dangerous once she reaches the later stages of a big event. This should be an exciting contest.

Venus Williams vs Carla Suarez Navarro, U.S Open R4 Preview

US Open, ????? R4 Preview + Prediction:
(9) ?? Venus Williams vs ?? Carla Suarez Navarro

Venus Williams and Carla Suarez Navarro will renew hostilities when they meet at the fourth round stage at Flushing Meadows on Saturday. Venus and Carla have built up a solid, competitive rivalry over the years, this will be their 8th career meeting with Venus currently leading the head-to-head 4-3. This is an enjoyable match-up because of the extreme contrast in styles, the raw power of Williams up against the finesse and consistency of Suarez Navarro. On a hard court, the head-to-head record is split at 2 wins apiece, who will edge ahead with a win in New York and move on to the second week?

(1) ?? Karolina Pliskova vs (27) ?? Shuai Zhang

World number 1 Karolina Pliskova survived a scare in the second round at Flushing Meadows, Pliskova was forced to came from a set down to defeat Nicole Gibbs and set up a third round clash with China’s Shuai Zhang. Pliskova will be happy to see Shuai Zhang in the third round, Pliskova holds a perfect 4-0 head-to-head record over Zhang and easily accounted for Zhang 6-2 6-0 in their most recent match in Doha earlier this year. Pliskova will be hoping for an improved performance on Saturday and another straightforward win over Zhang as she continues her quest to claim a maiden Grand Slam title and go one step better than her runner-up appearance in New York last year.

Agnieszka Radwanska vs CoCo Vandeweghe, U.S Open R3 Preview

US Open, ????? R3 Preview + Prediction
(10) ?? Agnieszka Radwanska vs (20) ?? CoCo Vandeweghe

CoCo Vandeweghe will get another shot at Agnieszka Radwanska when they collide at the third round stage at Flushing Meadows on Saturday. Radwanska has a dominant head-to-head record over Vandeweghe having won 5 of their previous 6 matches, all 5 victories were on a hard court. Despite their previous matches, Vandeweghe does have the weapons to trouble Radwanska, the conditions in New York are also probably more favourable for Vandeweghe whilst Radwanska has generally struggled at the U.S Open.

Maria Sharapova vs Sofia Kenin, U.S Open R3 Preview

US Open, ????? R3 Preview + Prediction
(wc) ?? Maria Sharapova vs (wc) ?? Sofia Kenin

Maria Sharapova’s comeback has been one of the biggest stories of the opening week at Flushing Meadows. The 2006 Champion will continue her U.S Open campaign on Thursday night with a third round clash against American wild card Sofia Kenin. Sharapova made the biggest statement of day 1 when she eliminated the second seeded Simona Halep in an epic, 6-4 4-6 6-3 before backing up that win with a 6-7 6-4 6-1 win over Timea Babos. Sharapova will be hoping for a more straightforward night on Thursday against an unheralded opponent.
