Dubai DFTC – R2 Preview
🇷🇴 (3) Simona Halep vs. 🇨🇦 (wc) Eugenie Bouchard

Simona Halep begins her Dubai campaign on Tuesday with a second round match against Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard. Halep has dominated this match-up in recent times and is a strong favourite to continue that dominance here.

Simona Halep of Romania in action during her semi-final at the 2019 Qatar Total Open WTA Premier tennis tournament

Halep is a former champion in Dubai having won the title in 2015, the second seed brings good form into this event after reaching the final last week in Doha where she claimed some notable victories. Halep has generally made a good start to the season and seems to be getting stronger and stronger as the season progresses.

Bouchard is slowly moving back up the WTA standings. Bouchard has made a decent stat to the year by her recent standards and did produce one of better performances of late to book her spot in the second round in Dubai as she comfortably defeated Vera Lapko 6-3 6-4 in little over an hour.

Simona Halep holds a 3-1 head-to-head record over Bouchard. Halep has cruised through their most recent matches, including a 6-2 6-2 win at the Australian Open last year in their latest match.

Serena Williams vs. Eugenie Bouchard, Australian Open R1 Preview

Australian Open, R2 Preview
🇺🇸 (16) Serena Williams vs. 🇨🇦 Eugenie Bouchard

One of the most exciting second round clashes from Melbourne Park on Thursday sees Serena Williams take on Eugenie Bouchard. Williams and Bouchard are two of the biggest names in women’s tennis so there will be a lot of interest surrounding this match-up. However, Bouchard will need to produce her best tennis to make this match competitive and ensure it lives up to the hype.

Eugenie Bouchard of Canada in action during her first-round match at the 2019 Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament

Serena Williams made an impressive start to her Australian Open campaign. The 7-time former champion cruised through her opening round match against Germany’s Tatjana Maria, the American claimed a dominant 6-0 6-2 victory in just 50 minutes. Serena won 85% of her service points, did not face a break point and hit 22 winners to just 11 unforced errors in what was a very tidy start to the tournament.

Eugenie Bouchard also cruised through her opening round match at Melbourne Park. The former semi-finalist smashed China’s Peng Shuai 6-2 6-1 in 60 minutes to book a showdown with Williams in what will be their first meeting at a Grand Slam event. Bouchard’s numbers were impressive in her first round win, Bouchard hit 15 winners to 13 unforced errors and is seemingly starting to somewhat resemble the player that reached the final 4 at this tournament in 2014.

Williams has won both of the previous matches between the pair. Williams beat Bouchard in 3 sets in Cincinnati in 2013, their most recent match ended in a dominant 6-1 6-1 win for Williams at the WTA finals Singapore in 2014.

Can Bouchard claim her first career win over Williams in Melbourne?

Eugenie Bouchard vs. Harmony Tan, US Open R1 Preview

🇺🇸🗽 US OPEN: R1 Preview
🇨🇦 (Q) Eugenie Bouchard vs. 🇫🇷 (wc) Harmony Tan

Eugenie Bouchard is one of the form qualifiers to reach the main draw at Flushing Meadows. The Canadian steamrolled her way through the qualifying draw and will be a heavy favourite when she opens her main draw campaign on Tuesday against French wild card Harmony Tan. On paper this is a huge mismatch, a former Grand Slam finalist up against a Grand Slam main draw debutant.

Eugenie Bouchard of Canada in action during the first qualification round at the 2018 US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament

Eugenie Bouchard cruised through the qualifying draw in New York. All eyes were on Bouchard, waiting for another potential slip up, but the Canadian made no such mistake. Bouchard easily defeated Zhao, Gorgodze and Loeb, losing a combined 7 games throughout the 3 victories. Bouchard has a complicated relationship with the US Open given her former lengthy legal battle against the USTA dating back to an incident in 2016. Bouchard has lost at the opening round stage in New York in the last couple of years but she now has a great chance to break that trend against a very inexperienced opponent.

Harmony Tan will be competing in the main draw of the Grand Slam, the Frenchwoman won the right to compete in the draw at a French regional playoff in July where she won a wild card entry into the main draw in New York. Not only is this Tan’s first main draw appearance at a Grand Slam, it is her first appearance in the main draw at the WTA tour level. This is a huge opportunity for the Frenchwoman.

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Elise Mertens vs. Eugenie Bouchard, Montreal R1 Preview

🇨🇦 Rogers Cup, Montreal R1 Preview
🇧🇪 (14) Elise Mertens vs. 🇨🇦 (wc) Eugenie Bouchard

The face of Canadian tennis will begin her Rogers Cup campaign on Tuesday, Eugenie Bouchard will face a tough test when she takes on the 14th seeded Elise Mertens. This has been a good match-up for Mertens in the past and the Belgian has been one of the most consistent players on tour in 2018, does Bouchard have it in her to step it up and o cause a big upset at home?

Elise Mertens of Belgium in action during her quarter-final match at the 2018 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic WTA Premier tennis tournament

Elise Mertens started her North American hard court swing in style last week as she reached the semi-finals in San Jose. A noteworthy straight set win over Johanna Konta was the highlight of the week in San Jose, however the week did end in disappointment as Mertens seemed to break down physically in her semi-final loss to Mihaela Buzarnescu from a set up. It will be interesting to see where Mertens is at physically in Montreal.

Eugenie Bouchard has dropped down to the ITF level of late, playing a couple of lower level tournaments on clay after Wimbledon. Bouchard will begin her North American hard court swing in Montreal, the Rogers Cup has typically not been a successful tournament for Bouchard, she has struggled to deal with the pressure and attention she receives when playing at home.

Mertens crushed Bouchard in their only previous meeting at the tour level, a 6-2 6-0 win on grass in s-Hertogenbosch in 2016. More recently, Mertens defeated Bouchard 6-4 6-4 at the Hopman cup in January this year.

Eugenie Bouchard vs Oceane Dodin, Australian Open R1 Preview

Australian Open 🇦🇺 R1 Preview
🇨🇦 Eugenie Bouchard vs 🇫🇷 Oceane Dodin

Two talented but erratic players will do battle at the opening round stage of the Australian Open as Eugenie Bouchard comes up against Oceane Dodin. Bouchard and Dodin are both under great pressure heading into 2018, both ladies have under-achieved in recent years, both enter the Australian Open without a win to their name in 2018.

Eugenie Bouchard enters this year’s Australian Open on a 9-match losing streak. Bouchard is deprived of confidence on court, the Canadian’s results are progressively getting worse and worse over the last couple of years. There is great pressure on Bouchard to turn her results around as she currently viewed by most as the most overrated player on tour (mostly be the media).

Oceane Dodin is yet to play a match in 2018. Like Bouchard, The Frenchwoman has also struggled to live up to expectations in recent times. Dodin showed glimpses of what she is capable of in 2017 but she continues to majorly struggle with inconsistency within matches, match to match and between tournaments.

This will be the first career meeting between Bouchard and Dodin. Both players love to step inside the court and dominate from the baseline. Dodin is particularly aggressive, meaning Bouchard will have to adapt her game in this match-up and be more of a counter-puncher. Can the Canadian break her losing streak and advance to the second round in Melbourne?

Eugenie Bouchard vs Angelique Kerber, Hopman Cup Preview

Hopman Cup Preview, Canada vs Germany
🇨🇦 Eugenie Bouchard vs 🇩🇪 Angelique Kerber

Eugenie Bouchard and Angelique Kerber made contrasting starts to their Hopman Cup campaigns. Bouchard was pretty disappointing in a straight set loss to Daria Gavrilova whilst Kerber won a high level encounter over Elise Mertens in 2 tight sets. Interestingly, it is Bouchard who has had a lot of success in this match-up, Bouchard holds a 4-2 head-to-head record.

Eugenie Bouchard was uncompetitive for the most part in her opening match at the Hopman Cup. Gavrilova defeated Burchard 6-1 6-4, the Aussie made the Canadian look second-rate for the majority of the match. Bouchard is clearly still lacking in confidence, Bouchard has lost 12 of her last 14 matches.

Angelique Kerber made an impressive debut at the Hopman Cup. Kerber got Germany off to a winning start by claiming an impressive 7-6 7-6 win over Elise Mertens. It was a very high quality encounter, Kerber was the tougher of the two in the critical moments, experience seemed to get Kerber over the line. Kerber also won the deciding mixed doubles tie alongside Alexander Zverev.

Bouchard has won 4 of the last 5 matches against Kerber, a surprising record given where these two stand in the game. Most recently, Bouchard led Kerber 6-3 5-0 in Madrid last year before the German retired. Kerber will be determined to turn her poor record against Bouchard again, can she get the better of the Canadian in Perth?

Daria Gavrilova vs Eugenie Bouchard, Hopman Cup Preview

Hopman Cup, Australia vs Canada

🇦🇺 Daria Gavrilova vs 🇨🇦 Eugenie Bouchard

Daria Gavrilova and Eugenie Bouchard will begin their 2018 campaign’s on Sunday when they do battle at the Hopman Cup in Perth. Gavrilova, a former champion at the Hopman Cup, had a strong finish to the 2017 season and will be looking to reach new heights in 2018. Conversely, Eugenie Bouchard’s career continues to head in the wrong direction. 2018 looms as a critical year for Bouchard, as it seems more and more likely that we have already seen the best of the Canadian.

Gavrilova has been a regular at the Hopman Cup of the last couple of years, the Aussie has used the event as a springboard for successful Australian Open campaigns. Gavrilova will be looking to take the next step at Melbourne Park in 2018, the 23-year-old is looking to reach the quarter-final stage at the Australian Open for the first time after back-to-back fourth round appearances.

Bouchard had a terrible ending to the 2017 season and heads into 2018 with little momentum or confidence. Bouchard lost 11 of her last 13 matches in 2017 which saw her end the year ranked 83 in the world. Bouchard’s commitment to the game continues to be questioned, the 23-year-old’s results are doing very little to prove the doubters wrong. With a guaranteed 3 matches to play in Perth, Bouchard will have a decent chance to find a much needed boost in form to kickstart her 2018 season.

Bouchard holds a 2-1 head-to-head record over Gavrilova. The pair haven’t met since 2013 where Gavrilova defeated Bouchard 7-6 7-6 at the qualifying stage of the Australian Open. Despite Bouchard leading the head-to-head record, it is Gavrilova who enters this match as a strong favourite.

Caroline Wozniacki vs Eugenie Bouchard, Hong Kong R1 Preview

Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open, Preview + Prediction
R1: (3) 🇩🇰 Caroline Wozniacki vs 🇨🇦 Eugenie Bouchard

Caroline Wozniacki will begin her title defense at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open with a potentially tricky first round clash against Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard. Wozniacki’s 55 match victories in 2017 is higher than any other player, whilst Eugenie Bouchard has had a very disappointing year, amassing an 11/18 win/loss record. Form points to a comprehensive Wozniacki victory, However it was Bouchard who won their only previous match and does have the weapons to damage the Dane in this match-up.

Eugenie Bouchard vs Evgeniya Rodina, U.S Open R1 Preview

US Open, 🇺🇸🍎🗽🚕 R1 Preview + Prediction
🇨🇦 Eugenie Bouchard vs 🇷🇺 Evgeniya Rodina

Eugenie Bouchard will begin her 2017 U.S Open campaign on Tuesday, second up on Grandstand Court against Russia’s Evgeniya Rodina. Bouchard is having another horrific year and has one last chance to turn her fortunes around at a major event in 2017. Bouchard’s opening round clash in New York with Rodina looms as a very pleasant draw for the Canadian. Rodina has been eliminated at the opening round stage of all three Grand Slam events this year. There is no excuse for Bouchard to lose this match.

Agnieszka Radwanska vs Eugenie Bouchard, New Haven R2 Preview

Connecticut Open, 🇺🇸🏫 New Haven preview + prediction
R2: (1) 🇵🇱 Agnieszka Radwanska vs (wc) 🇨🇦 Eugenie Bouchard

Agnieszka Radwanska and Eugenie Bouchard will open the night session on Tuesday at the Connecticut Open. Radwanska is the defending champion in New Haven this week and will desperately want to replicate the form that saw her win the title in 2016 as she looks to gain much needed momentum heading into the final Grand slam of the year next week. Radwanska has a perfect record over Bouchard, the Pole has won all three of their previous matches, all in straight sets. Can Bouchard turn things around here?
