?? (1) Ashleigh Barty vs. ?? Ying-Ying Duan

Ash Barty continues her Nottingham campaign on Thursday with a second round clash against China’s Ying-Yong Duan. This will be the first career meeting between Barty and Duan, a mismatch on paper, Barty will enter this match as a strong favourite and rightfully so.

Barty produced a fairly clinical opening round performance at the Nature Valley Open. The Aussie number 1 comfortably defeated Stefanie Voegele 6-3 6-3. Barty’s strengths were on show, most notably the Aussie’s very strong serve. Barty saved all 3 break points she faced and only dropped the 4 points on serve throughout the entire match. Barty’s grass court prowess is clear, she will be very hard to stop this week. In Nottingham.

Duan also produced a strong serving performance in her opening round match in Nottingham. Duan claimed a comfortable 6-2 6-2 win over Russian qualifier Valeria Savinykh. Duan served 8 aces and won 76 percent of points behind her first serve in what was a good start to the grass court season for Duan.

It will be interesting to see if the big hitting Duan can catch form and cause Barty some problems.

Caroline Garcia vs. Ying-Ying Duan, Roland Garros R1 Preview

Roland Garros, R1 Preview
?? (7) Caroline Garcia vs. ?? Ying-Ying Duan

The French number 1: Caroline Garcia opens her Roland Garros campaign against China’s Ying-Ying Duan. Garcia seemingly turned her career around at Roland Garros last year with a quarter-final showing, her best performance at a Grand Slam, she has not looked back since. 12 months later Garcia enters this years event as a genuine contender, the first time a French woman has been in this position for a while.

Garcia brings really good form into the second Grand Slam of the year. The 7th seed had a really good run to the semi-finals in Madrid where she beat quality opponents in Cibulkova, Martic, Goerges and Suarez Navarro before succumbing to Kiki Bertens. A week later Garcia reached the quarter-finals in Rome with wins over Babos and Stephens before succumbing to Simona Halep.

The form of Ying-Ying Duan heading into Paris is awful. Duan played a couple of lower level events in China of late and suffered early round exits. Clay is easily Duan’s least preferred surface, she plays very little tennis on this surface and will enter this tough opening round match with Garcia as a huge outsider and nothing to lose.

This will be the first career meeting between Garcia and Duan.

Angelique Kerber vs Ying-Ying Duan, Miami R2 Preview

Miami Open, ???? R2 Match Preview
(1) ?? Angelique Kerber vs ?? Ying-Ying Duan

Angelique Kerber will begin her first tournament as the newly re-crowned world number 1 on Friday when she comes up against Ying-Ying Duan in the second round of the Miami Open. Kerber has failed to make a huge impact at the biggest events in 2017, unable to go beyond the round of 16 in Melbourne and Indian Wells. Kerber will keen to change that trend in Miami, if she finds her top form there is no reason why she can’t be a contender for the title.

Eugenie Bouchard vs Ying-Ying Duan, Wimbledon R1 Preview

(12) Eugenie Bouchard vs (Q) Ying-Ying Duan

Eugenie Bouchard enters Wimbledon 2015 under an extreme amount of pressure. The Canadian has a large chunk of her points to defend over the next fortnight after the reaching the final in London last year. Furthermore, Bouchard enters the tournament totally deprived of confidence after a horror run of losses.

Eugenie Bouchard has lost 11 of her last 13 matches, including a first round exit at Roland Garros. As a result, the Canadian’s ranking has slipped outside the top 10. Bouchard will need a dramatic reversal of form if she is to avoid another big slip down the rankings.

Bouchard has looked slightly better in the last couple of weeks, however she has still been unable to gain any momentum. The Canadian suffered opening round losses in s-Hertogenbosch and Birmingham. Genie did pick up a good win in Eastbourne, defeating Alison Riske in straight sets, however she was forced to retire during her next match with Belinda Bencic because of an abdominal injury.

Ying-Ying Duan will be competing in her first Wimbledon main draw in 2015. The 25-year-old was forced to come through qualifying, she did so in style, winning all three of her matches in straight sets. Ying-Ying Duan’s game was famously compared to Lindsay Davenport’s during her 2013 US Open match against Caroline Wozniacki, she was then nicknamed, ‘Chinese Davenport.’

Ying-Ying Duan has never won a Grand Slam main draw match, despite Bouchard’s recent woes, that is highly unlikely to change here. Bouchard may take a little while to get going, she may be a little nervy closing it out, but ultimately she should definitely progress to the second round.

Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard to defeat Ying-Ying Duan in 2 sets
