Fed Cup WG 1: United States vs Netherlands
?? CoCo Vandeweghe vs ?? Richel Hogenkamp
CoCo Vandeweghe was the hero of last year’s successful Fed Cup campaign for the USA. Vandeweghe was easily the standout player all year in the Fed Cup, amassing a perfect 8-0 win/loss record. Vandeweghe will be back in action on Saturday when she takes on Richel Hogenkamp in the second rubber of the tie. Venus Williams is likely to give the USA a 1-0 lead which mean CoCo can give the USA a commanding 2-0 lead.
CoCo Vandeweghe had a very disappointing Australian summer and will be keen to gain some momentum this week in one of her favourite settings. Vandeweghe suffered a shock opening round loss at the Australian Open, beaten by Timea Babos in straight sets in what was one the most disappointing losses for CoCo in recent years.
Richel Hogenkamp enters this tie in terrible form having lost all three of her matches to start the year. Hogenkamp was comfortably beaten in the opening round at the Australian Open by Lara Arruabarrena. Hogenkamp has been a regular part of a Dutch team that has defied the odds to remain in the world group. Hogenkamp has a good 16/7 overall win/loss record in Fed Cup matches.
This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
