Dominika Cibulkova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Indian Wells R4 Preview

BNP Paribas Open, ??? Indian Wells, R4 Match Preview
(5) ?? Dominika Cibulkova vs (19) ?? Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

Dominika Cibulkova has claimed two typically gutsy wins to advance to the final 16 at the BNP Paribas Open. The Slovakian needed three sets to get past Jelena Ostapenko and Kristyna Pliskova, the second of those matches saw the world number 5 come from a set and a break down, saving match points to claim a 2-6 7-6 7-6 victory. Cibulkova will face another tough test on Tuesday when she faces Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the fourth round. Pavlyuchenkova has been untroubled in her first two matches at the BNP Paribas Open and has been playing well throughout most of 2017.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is continuing her great start to 2017. The Russian made the quarter-finals at the Australian Open earlier this year and is looking to make another big impact at a major event this week. Pavlyuchenkova started the tournament with a decent 6-4 6-4 win over Anett Kontaveit before producing an impressive performance to breeze past Barbora Strycova 6-3 6-2.

Dominika Cibulkova holds a 5-2 head-to-head record over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The Slovakian has won their past three meetings and has won 5 of their last 6 matches. The pair met last month in Doha where Cibulkova emerged victorious 7-5 2-6 6-2. I suspect Cibulkova will again be too good for Pavlyuchenkova on this occasion. As their recent matches suggest, this is a good match-up for Cibulkova because she can generally match Pavlyuchenkova’s power whilst at the same time she is a far better mover around the court and will often be the more solid player out of the two under pressure.

Prediction: Dominika Cibulkova to defeat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in 2 sets
