Taiwan Open, Taipei City QF Preview
?? (wc) Eugenie Bouchard vs ?? Yafan Wang
Eugenie Bouchard may finally be turning her fortunes around. The Canadian is into her first quarter-final since Madrid last year. Given the depleted field in Taipei City, this seems like the ultimate opportunity for Bouchard to have a real crack at capturing her first WTA title. Bouchard will be back in action on Friday evening where she takes on China’s Yafan Wang for a place in the semi-finals at the Taiwan Open.
Eugenie Bouchard struggled through her opening round match at the Taiwan Open, eventually getting through to the second round after Lin Zhu retired early in the third set. In the second round Bouchard produced a vastly improved performance as she defeated an in-form Ana Bogdan 7-5 7-5. Bouchard did well to maintain her composure towards the end of the second set after failing to serve out the match at 5-4. Overall it was probably the best Bouchard has played all year, a confidence boosting win for the Canadian.
Yafan Wang is into her first quarter-final at this level. Wang started the event with a comfortable straight set win over Risa Ozaki before securing her spot in the final 8 with a 6-3 6-3 win over the 8th seeded Pauline Parmentier. This is a massive opportunity for Wang, arguably the biggest match of her career thus far.
This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
