Miami Open, ????? R3 Preview
?? (1) Simona Halep vs. ?? (30) Agnieszka Radwanska
Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska will renew hostilities when they meet at the third round stage of the Miami Open on Saturday. These two have a long history, the head-to-head record between the pair heading into this match is split at 5 wins apiece. However, clearly the careers of these two have gone in totally different directions of late, Halep has climbed to the top of the game whilst Radwanska continues to slide. Can Radwanska produce a vintage performance to upset the world number 1?
Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska both received byes through the opening round in Miami. Halep overcame a very tough challenge from Oceane Dodin in her first match of the event, claiming a hard-fought 3-6 6-3 7-5 victory. Halep’s victory was down to her superior fitness and mental toughness more than anything as Dodin tired towards the end of the third set. Radwanska also moved past a young, powerful opponent, beating Alison Van Uytvanck 6-3 7-6, an important win for the Pole.
As mentioned above, the head-to-head record between these 2 is split at 5 wins apiece. Halep has had the better of this match-up in recent times having won 3 of the last 4 matches between the pair. Interestingly, these two have not played for about a year and a half, it was Halep who claimed a 7-5 6-1 win at the Rogers Cup in 2016 in their most recent match. Since that match it Halep who has continually improved whilst Radwanska has seemingly become weaker and weaker.
