🇩🇪 (12) Angelique Kerber vs. 🇳🇱 (18) Kiki Bertens
A Fascinating third round clash in Paris sees the 12th seeded Angelique Kerber take on the 18th seeded Kiki Bertens. Kerber is flying under the radar in Paris, after a couple of first round exits at Roland Garros in the past few year’s little was expected of Kerber this year. Nevertheless, Kerber has moved into the third round without dropping a set, the 2-time Grand Slam champion will face a huge test against former semi-finalist Kiki Bertens, will she rise to the occasion?
Angelique Kerber has cruised into the third round in Paris for the first time since 2015. The German easily disposed of two potentially problematic opponents, the 12th seed started the week with a 6-2 6-3 win over Mona Barthel followed by a 6-2 6-3 win over Ana Bogdan.
Kiki Bertens has also been untroubled on route to the third round in Paris. Bertens crushed a pair of Belarusian opponents to reach the third round, starting with a 6-2 6-1 win over Aryna Sabalenka before defeating Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 6-2. Bertens had a big breakthrough in 2016 in Paris where she reached the semi-finals and she looms as a genuine contender at this year’s event.
The head-to-head record between the pair is split at 1 win apiece. The only completed match between the pair took place at the opening round stage at Roland Garros in 2016 where Bertens defeated the then reigning Australian Open champion 6-2 3-6 6-3.
