St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy, Quarter-Final Preview
?? (4) Kristina Mladenovic vs ?? Katerina Siniakova
Kristina Mladenovic finally broke a string of 15 consecutive losses on Wednesday in St. Petersburg. Mladenovic claimed a big upset win over Dominika Cibulkova to kick-start her title defense of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy. The Frenchwoman will be back in action on Friday where she comes up against Katerina Siniakova. Mladenovic will be aiming to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Birmingham last year.
Mladenovic arrived in St. Petersburg with a horrendous recent record having lost 15 matches in a row. However the Frenchwoman would have been confident having won the doubles title alongside Timea Babos at the Australian Open last week. Mladenovic finally got back on the winners list with a 6-4 6-4 win over Dominika Cibulkova in her first match of the week in St. Petersburg. Mladenovic did surprisingly well at the end of the match as Cibulkova began to mount a comeback, Mladenovic held her ground, fending off break back opportunities to close out the match in straight sets.
Katerina Siniakova has made it through to the quarter-finals in St. Petersburg courtesy of a couple of tough victories. Siniakova started the week with a 3 set win over Donna Vekic before winning an extremely tight match against Ekaterina Makarova 7-6 7-5. Siniakova did well to come from behind in each set of her match against Makarova, serving extremely well under pressure in each set.
Siniakova holds a 3-1 head-to-head record over Mladenovic. The most recent meeting between the pair took place in Wuhan last year where Siniakova won 6-3 6-2.
