Petra Kvitova vs. Tereza Smitkova, Prague R1 Preview

J&T Banka Prague Open, R1 Preview
?? (2) Petra Kvitova vs. ?? (wc) Tereza Smitkova

Petra Kvitova begins her Prague campaign on Tuesday with an opening round match against compatriot Tereza Smitkova. Clay has typically been Kvitova’s least successful surface, after losing a couple of opening round matches on clay over the last few weeks, it is important for Kvitova to build some momentum and belief over the next week in Prague.

Kvitova has proven in 2018 that her best is still elite. However, the question is can Kvitova be a threat on clay? The start to the 2018 clay court season has not been great. The two-time former Wimbledon champion suffered a shock opening round loss at the hands of Kristyna Pliskova in Charleston before being beaten by Angelique Kerber in straight sets last week. Given how open the tour is right now, Kvitova will know that if she catches form, she can win titles on this surface.

Tereza Smitkova has spent the majority of her 2018 season at the ITF level. Smitkova is yet to win a match on the WTA tour in 2018 and clay has been her least successful surface over the years.

Kvitova has won the only two previous matches between the pair, most recently Kvitova claimed a 6-2 6-3 win on grass in Birmingham last year.
