Madison Brengle vs Julia Goerges, Roland Garros R1 Preview

Roland Garros, ??? R1 Preview + Prediction
?? Madison Brengle vs ?? Julia Goerges

Julia Goerges looms as one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the draw at Roland Garros 2017. The German has shown promising signs here and there in recent times but inconsistency throughout tournaments and matches continues to plague Julia. On the other side of the spectrum is Madison Brengle, a player with little talent but a player that almost always gives the same level, a solid fighter who can expose players like Goerges if they are not on their game.

Madison Brengle will be searching for her first ever main draw win at Roland Garros. Brengle has fallen at the first round stage on three previous occasions in Paris. Brengle only played one tour level event on clay in the lead up to Paris, coming through the qualifying draw in Strasbourg last week to reach the second round where she was smashed by Sam Stosur.

Julia Goerges was also in action last week, the German was eliminated in the second round in Nuremburg, a surprise straight set loss to Carina Witthoeft. Goerges is a player that has seemingly never reached her potential on the biggest stage, the German has the game to beat almost anyone on her day and is most dangerous on a clay court. Recent wins over Elina Svitolina and Kristina Mladenovic should give Goerges confidence heading into this event, proving that she is a threat against the best.

This will be the first career meeting between Brengle and Goerges. The German should be too good here, despite some problematic periods in this match. Goerges has all the firepower to blow Brengle off the court, especially on a clay court. Brengle’s only change will be to extract errors from Goerges which could be a possibility as Goerges is erratic but ultimately Goerges should pull through.

Prediction: Julia Goerges to defeat Madison Brengle in 3 sets
