Fed Cup WG 1: Czech Republic vs Switzerland
?? Petra Kvitova vs ?? Viktorija Golubic
Petra Kvitova returns to Fed Cup action on Saturday in Prague as she leads a strong Czech Republic team into battle against Switzerland. The Czech Republic clearly have the strongest team of all 8 teams in the world group this week, a full strength side of Kvitova, Pliskova, Strycova and Safarova. This is a daunting task for Switzerland, Golubic will be a heavy underdog when she comes up against Kvitova in the opening rubber of the tie.
Petra Kvitova has been the star of the Fed Cup over the last decade. Kvitova has been a part of a winning Czech team on 5 occasions and brings great form into this home tie with Switzerland having won her 21st career title in St. Petersburg last week. After a couple of disappointing losses to start the year, including a first round exit at the Australian Open, Kvitova’s title run in St. Petersburg was just what 27-year-old needed to find her mojo.
Viktorija Golubic is fairly experienced on the Fed Cup stage having been involved in a couple of semi-final ties over the last few years. 2017 was a tough experience for Golubic as she lost both her singles rubbers in a winnable semi-final tie against Belarus.
This will be the first career meeting between Kvitova and Golubic.
