Miami Open, ????? R4 Preview
?? (30) Agnieszka Radwanska vs. ?? (wc) Victoria Azarenka
Agnieszka Radwanska and Victoria Azarenka will renew hostilities on Monday when they meet at the fourth round stage of the Miami Open. Radwanska and Azarenka have a colourful history, the pair have gone H2H on 17 previous occasions, Azarenka holds a commanding 12-5 record over the Pole. So much has happened since their last meeting almost 3 and a half years ago, it will be fascinating to see how this match-up pans out, a real throwback match-up.
Radwanska secured her spot in the fourth round in Miami with her biggest victory in recent times. Radwanska produced a vintage performance to capture a 3-6 6-2 6-3 victory over world number 1 Simona Halep. Whilst it is true that Halep was certainly not at her best, the win will give Radwanska a heap of confidence given her poor results of late. Radwanska also claimed a solid straight set win over Alison Van Uytvanck earlier in the week after receiving a bye through the first round.
Victoria Azarenka’s return to the tour is going very well indeed. The Belarusian is playing some great tennis in just her second tournament since Wimbledon last year. Azarenka loves playing in Miami, the 3-time former Miami Open champion started her 2018 campaign with a commanding straight set win over Catherine Bellis before winning via retirement over Madison Keys. Azarenka sealed her spot in the fourth round with a hard-fought win over Anastasija Sevastova, a 3-6 6-4 6-1 victory from a set and a break down.
Azarenka holds a 12-5 H2H record over Radwanska. Between 2012 and 2013 Azarenka was dominant in this match up, winning 7 consecutive matches against Radwanska. However, it is Radwanska who has won the last two matches between the pair since Azarenka’s dominant run, both came in 2014. An epic 3 set win at the Australian Open and most recently a 6-2 6-2 win at the Rogers Cup.
