Semi-Final #1 (7) Maria Sharapova vs (18) Eugenie Bouchard
The WTA's current golden girl, Maria Sharapova will come up against the WTA's future golden girl Eugenie Bouchard for a sport in the final at Roland Garros. This promises to be an entertaining battle between two powerful hitters.
Bouchard reached her second consecutive Grand Slam semi-final by defeating Carla Suarez Navarro in a three set thriller. Genie was down 1-4 in the final set but stormed home to take it 7-5. Bouchard showed maturity beyond her years in an impressive victory. The Canadian comes into this match with nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.
Maria Sharapova also looked to be in trouble after dropping the first 6-1 to Garbine Muguruza in her quarter-final match. The Russian was a game away from defeat in the second set but toughed out a three set victory. Sharapova also conceded a head start in her fourth round match to Sam Stosur so she will be keen to ensure she doesn't find herself in a similar position against Bouchard.
These two are both in great form, Bouchard is on a 10 match winning streak which saw her claim her first title ,whIlst Sharapova has won 17 of her last 18 matches including two titles. These two have met on two previous occasions, with Sharapova coming out on top in straight sets on both occasions. However, this promises to be a much tighter match.
Sharapova still starts a clear favourite, she is just a bit more solid in almost all areas. Genie has arguably a better all round game but Sharapova is likely to overpower the Canadian.
Prediction: Maria Sharapova to defeat Eugenie Bouchard 6-3 6-4
Semi Final #2 (4) Simona Halep vs (28) Andrea Petkovic
Two first time Grand Slam finalists will square off for a place in the final at Roland Garros when SImona Halep takes on Andrea Petkovic.
Both Halep and Petkovic cruised through their quarterfinal matches. Petkovic's victory was the upset of the day, not many predicted her to defat Errani and certainly not many predicted her to do it so easily. Halep has barley raised a sweat thus far in Paris, yet to drop a set and is yet to look like dropping a set.
These two have played three times. Halep won their two most recent encounters which took place in 2013, both in straight sets.
Halep is the strong favourite heading into this match and rightfully so. The Romanian is yet to put a foot wrong in Paris and it is hard to see Petkovic causing Halep too many problems
Prediction: Simona Halep to defeat Andrea Petkovic 6-2 6-4
