Ladies Championship, Gstaad, ???️ Quarter-final Preview
?? Sara Sorribes Tormo vs ?? Tamara Korpatsch

A big opportunity presents itself to Sara Sorribes Tormo and Tamara Korpatsch when they go head-to-head for a semi-final spot in Gstaad on Friday. Both Sorribes Tormo and Korpatsch are comfortable on a clay court and are both on the rise up the rankings. A semi-final showing in Gstaad would be a huge ranking boost for both, with so much on the line it will be interesting too see which of these two will step up and emerge victorious.

Sorribes Tormo has done well to advance to the quarter-final stage in Gstaad given the Spaniard has served a whopping 27 double faults in her first two matches this week. Sorribes Tormo won an epic struggle against the 8th seeded Evgeniya Rodina in the first round, winning 4-6 6-3 7-6. The Spaniard’s second round victory was a bit more straightforward, 6-1 7-5 win over Louisa Chirico despite some difficulty ending the match in the second set.

Tamara Korpatsch is into her first ever quarter-final at a WTA tour level event. Korpatsch started the week with a 6-3 6-0 win over Jil Teichmann before coming from a set down to beat Maria Sakkari 5-7 6-3 6-0 in what was one of the biggest wins of the young German’s career thus far.

Sara Sorribes Tormo cruised past Korpatsch in their only previous encounter, a 6-1 6-1 win at the final qualifying stage in Gstaad last year. 12-months later the pair will face off in the quarter-finals in the main draw, showing the improvement that both have made. This should be a much closer match but I suspect it will end with the same result. Sorribes Tormo is the more accomplished player and if she can fix up her service numbers she will be hard to beat given how solid she has been from the baseline. This should be a close one, the Spaniard just sneaking through.

Prediction: Sara Sorribes Tormo to defeat Tamara Korpatsch in 3 sets
