Samantha Stosur vs. Sofia Kenin, Strasbourg R1 Preview

Internationaux de Strasbourg R1 Preview
?? Samantha Stosur vs. ?? Sofia Kenin

Sam Stosur begins her title defense in Strasbourg with a opening round clash against American rising-star Sofia Kenin. Stosur will be looking to gain some much needed momentum in Strasbourg before heading to Roland Garros. Stosur’s ranking has taken a hit in recent times, Stosur is currently well outside the top 50 and is at risk of an even greater fall if she suffers an early round exit in Strasbourg.

Stosur’s form throughout the clay court season has not been great, Stosur’s best result was a run to the quarter-finals in Prague, but that sounds better than it actually was as Stosur only won 1 completed match that week and was easily beaten by Giorgi at the QF stage. Most recently Stosur suffered a disappointing 3 set loss to Van Uytvanck in the opening round in Rome last week. Kenin is also in poor form having failed to win a tour level match in clay in 2018, Kenin was beaten by Kanepi in 3 sets at the first hurdle in the qualifying draw in Rome last week.

This will be the first career meeting between Stosur and Kenin. Stosur is clearly the more accomplished player but Kenin has a big game and nothing to lose here, perhaps she can push the Aussie?
