Svetlana Kuznetsova vs Agnieszka Radwanska, Wimbledon R4 Preview

Wimbledon ????? R4 Match Preview:
(7) ?? Svetlana Kuznetsova vs (9) ?? Agnieszka Radwanska

Svetlana Kuznetsova and Agnieszka Radwanska will renew hostilities when they go head-to-head at Wimbledon in the fourth round stage. Kuznetsova has traditionally been quite dominant over Radwanska, the Russian holds an overall 13-4 record over the Pole, Kuznetsova has won 9 of the last 10 matches between the pair. However, none of those matches were on grass, Radwanska is clearly better suited to grass and has a much better record at Wimbledon. This should be a very close encounter…

Svetlana Kuznetsova has been relatively untroubled on route to the fourth round as SW19. Kuznetsova has come through her first three matches without dropping a set, making the most of a fairly favourable draw. Kuznetsova has beaten Ons Jabeur, Ekaterina Makarova and finally a 6-4 6-0 win over Polona Hercog. Kuznetsova’s record at Wimbledon in recent years has not been great, a battle with grass court specialist Radwanska will give a good indication as to where her level is at.

Radwanska’s first week was a tough one. The Pole overcame a tough opening round test, beating Jelena Jankovic 7-6 6-0 before saving match points to defeat Christina McHale 5-7 7-6 6-3. Radwanska was again forced to come from a set down to secure her spot in the second week at SW19 for the sixth time in a row with a 3-6 6-4 6-1 win over Timea Bacsinszky.

Kuznetsova holds a 13-4 head-to-head record over Radwanska. The last four matches between these two have gone the distance, including an epic 7-5 1-6 7-5 win for Kuznetsova in Singapore last year. Kuznetsova’s superior firepower has often been the difference in this match-up, on grass this is not as much of a factor. Radwanska has won the only previous match between the pair at Wimbledon, way back in 2008.

Despite the head-to-head record, I’m going to give Radwanska the edge here. On grass everything is different. Radwanska’s record at Wimbledon is superb, clearly better than Kuznetsova’s. Radwanska has worked her way into some good form after a couple of tough wins, Clearly there is little to separate these two, their matches are often extremely close, Radwanska’s proven ability of this surface should give her the advantage as she is able to execute her game, something she struggles to do against Kuznetsova on a slower surface.

Prediction: Agnieszka Radwanska to defeat Svetlana Kuznetsova in 3 sets
