Venus Williams vs Ana Konjuh, Wimbledon R4 Preview

Wimbledon ????? R4 Match Preview:
(10) ?? Venus Williams vs (27) ?? Ana Konjuh

A Fascinating battle of the generations sees Venus Williams take on Ana Konjuh for a quarter-final spot at SW19. Both Williams and Konjuh enter this clash battle hardened having come through some tough matches in the opening week of the tournament. This will be the first career meeting between Williams and Konjuh, it will be interesting to see if the 19-year-old can execute her game, if she does she is going to be hard to stop.

Venus Williams is going through a lot off the court at the moment but on the court she is as focused and determined as ever. Venus got off to a tough start with a 7-6 6-4 win over Elise Mertens before coming from a set down to defeat Qiang Wang 4-6 6-4 6-1. Williams confirmed her spot in the second week with a hard-fought 7-6 6-4 win over Naomi Osaka.

Ana Konjuh is into the second week of a slam for the second time in her young career. Konjuh easily accounted for Sabine Lisicki 6-1 6-4 in the first round before sneaking past Irina-Camelia Begu 7-6 2-6 6-3. Konjuh claimed her biggest win in the third round where she eliminated the fifth seeded Dominika Cibulkova, 7-6 3-6 6-4.

I’m going to give the edge to Konjuh here. Venus clearly has experience on her side but Konjuh is on the rise and should be ready to make her mark at this level. Konjuh has the power to match and surpass Venus, if Konjuh plays her best she should be too sharp for Venus at this stage in their careers.

Prediction: Ana Konjuh to defeat Venus Williams in 2 sets

  1. Thanks for your post. From your analysis I knew for sure Venus would have won. She dismantled Konjuh.
