Victoria Azarenka vs Petra Kvitova, Toronto R2 Preview

Toronto R2: Victoria Azarenka vs (3) Petra Kvitova

Wednesday’s match of the day at the Rogers Cup sees a heavyweight battle between Victoria Azarenka and Petra Kvitova.

Victoria Azarenka advanced to the second round courtesy of 6-1 6-4 victory over Elina Svitolina. The Belarussian was too strong for Svitolina, Azarenka committed to playing aggressive tennis and she was rewarded with a comfortable victory, making a solid to her U.S Open series campaign.

Petra Kvitova recently announced that she has been diagnosed with mononucleosis, a virus which has caused her to sit out periods of this season due to fatigue. It has been an up and down season for Kvitova, for the most part it has been quite disappointing, especially her early round exit at Wimbledon. Petra’s preparation for the U.S Open series hasn’t been great, this is a challenging time for Petra.

Kvitova holds a 4-2 head to head record over Azarenka, Petra has won the last 4 encounters between the pair. However, this will be the first time the two will go head to head in almost 4 years. I expect Azarenka to be too good here, her preparation far greater and she should get the job done.

Prediction: Victoria Azarenka to defeat Petra Kvitova in 2 sets
